Pretties for Your Precious.... Boho in Color

After the holiday decor comes down, and winter sets in with vigor, the color of life seems a bit drab and in need of a spot of new color. The pretty blue pendant choker above, is an easy fix for those days, when just a touch of color will do, nothing too fancy, but pretty is as pretty does.
For a little more sparkle and pizazz, this multi-layered necklace is just the ticket. Both this necklace and the choker above are hand crafted by me. Add a bit of color to your wardrobe today by visiting my etsy shop: SIMPLY SHERYL'S

Valentines Boho Necklace

It's been awhile since I've had a moment to share my goings on. Life has a way of taking us on a roller coaster ride on occasion, but fortunately for us, it hasn't been a bad ride. Now that we've finished with the Christmas rush, we can sit back and enjoy family, friends and what the season is really all about, love and giving. Interestingly enough, Valentines is just around the corner, another day to show that special sweetheart in your life how special they are.
Here's a bit of trivia regarding Valentines Day.
Saint Valentine's Day, also known as Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated on February 14 and  is celebrated in many countries around the world, although not a holiday in most.
St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration one or more early saints named Valentinus.  A popular account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell.
The day was first associated with romance in the circle of Geoffery Chaucer in the High Middle Ages,  when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering sweets and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). In Europe, Saint Valentines Keys are given to lovers "as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart".

You can give a one of a kind Valentine this year, hand crafted with love and attention to detail. You will find this piece in my etsy shop at Simply Sheryl's

I don't know about you, but I am so ready for the cooler weather! I've had Fall colors and clothing on my mind, anticipating pulling out my favorite Autumn tops and sweaters. I've been stealing time between work and church duties to create some Autumn themed folk art and jewelry. I've created a  pair of lovely earrings and a one of a kind necklace, all designed to dress up your Autumn wardrobe. You can find more pieces like these in my Simply Sheryl's etsy shop

What Happens When You Drop a Dish..... Whaalaa! Artisan Jewelry!

True story...... I found a lovely little saucer at a yard sale in Wallowa, Oregon along with some other treasures I can't even remember. I had tucked the saucer up against my chest, so it was hidden from view after I found more lovelies to take home. I get up to the sales table and start taking things out of my bundle one by one. I moved the arm that had the saucer tucked in it and eeek! it crashed to the porch, shattering in several pieces. The nice lady wasn't going to charge me, but it was my mistake so I paid her anyway. I had planned on using the saucer for a pedestal dish, so that wasn't going to work. Thank goodness I had started using broken china to make pendants and dangles for jewelry.
I found gorgeous midnight blue glass rondell beads so a necklace idea was born!

"A Bird In the Hand" Silverware Pendant Necklace and Earrings

It has been said that it's better to have a lesser but certain advantage than the possibility of a greater one that may come to nothing. Thus the phrase, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
This proverb refers back to mediaeval falconry where a bird in the hand (the falcon) was a valuable asset and certainly worth more than two in the bush (the prey).
The first citation of the expression in print in its currently used form is found in John Ray's A Hand-book of Proverbs, 1670.
It's amazing how long certain sayings can stick with society, especially when we can't even remember what we said last week. Just like an old commercial where a musical ditty such as "you'll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent!" is still rattling around in my brain, and comes to the forefront on occasion, such sayings as "A bird in the hand" come to the tip of our tongue, when appropriate. When I saw the lovely hand pendant, and the bird with nest and such string of beads, I immediately thought of the phrase, inspiration for a pretty creation! Stop by my etsy shop if you would like "A bird in the Hand", for yourself.  Simply Sheryl's

Bleeding Hearts Artisan Jewelry for Valentines

Yesterday morning was bright and blue, with feathery wisps of clouds on the horizon. The warm breeze brushed my cheeks with a touch of sunshine, belying the storm to come.
This morning the wind is pushing the storm our way; a promise of snow and colder temperatures. I think Valentines Day must come in February to brighten an otherwise potentially dreary month with a bit of color and remembrance of romance to warm our hearts.
It's only January I know, but it's never too early to get a gift, either for yourself, or the one who brightens your day.  Give them a gift that will remind them of your love by visiting Simply Sheryl's.

Enchanting Simplicity in Jewelry - a Silverware Pendant

I'm sitting here enjoying the fleeting moments of quiet peaceful silence as I'm all alone for a bit. As a caretaker for my MIL that doesn't happen very often so I'm going to savor the time as I share what I've been up to. An old spoon handle was the inspiration for this lovely piece.  The spoon itself had seen better days, probably used many times over to serve some delicious casserole, or fluffy mashed potatoes. Did the spoon belong to only one owner before ending up in my stash, or was it passed down from mother to daughter or son? The story itself could be very intriguing!

As a lover of old things turned new or re-purposed  I separated the handle from the rest and created a pretty pendant.
Every nice necklace needs a matching pair of earrings as well. If you would like to purchase these stop by my etsy shop - Simply Sheryl's

Cowgirl Chic Jewelry for the new year

I had so much fun mixing and matching beads to put this piece together. The Rose pendant was something I couldn't pass up when I spied it, especially since it was on sale. The leaf toggle was a perfect way to finish this off.
Created to match the necklace, these lovely dangle earrings sparkle and shine. To see more about them please visit my etsy shop - Simply Sheryl's
